Lung cancer 2ww

I saw my GP about my nails bending over and she referred me on the 2ww lung cancer pathway. I expected to be told I was anaemic or such like! I have a CT scan in a couple of days. Chest X-ray was clear but this apparently means very little. I’m swinging between being terrified to “what will be, will be”.

is it likely to be lung cancer?

It's good you've got the referral as this is a Biggie to rule out, but it could be a lot of things. Your body is struggling a bit, but it also happens with things like Crohn's. So if you are struggling to absorb nutrients you need for efficient oxygen transport (digestion), or are struggling to collect oxygen (lungs), or aren't efficient at pumping the blood around (heart) you can get clubbed nails. So there's loads of explanations other than lung cancer. X

Chest X-ray being clear means a lot although it doesn't completely exclude lung cancer. 75-80% of lung cancers will be visible on chest x-ray.

There are also lots of different causes of finger clubbing, most commonly being that's just how your finger nails look.

It's great your GP is excluding everything and being careful so if there is anything, hopefully it's detected very early.

Thank you both of you.
