Referred to Breast Clinic - feeling overwhelmed

I noticed a lumpy part in my
left breast and have recently had some strange sensations in that breast too. I went to the GP and they have referred me to the Breast Clinic for this but also because they found a little lump in my left
armpit. Has anyone been in this situation and what was the outcome? I feel totally overwhelmed and beyond anxious - have other people felt this way or am I jumping to conclusions? I’m getting itchy burning on top of my feet and other parts of body too - aware this could be anxiety but worried it’s part of something much worse. Apologies if this isn’t the right place to post - I haven’t posted on MN for a long time.

Try (very difficult I know) to remain calm. Lots of women get referred to breast clinics and end up with nothi g wrong, it's a precautionary measure at this stage.
If it is something serious the best thing is you are going to get it treated soon.

I had a referral by my gp for unusual marks on the skin of my breast. The staff at the breast clinic are lovely. I had an ultrasound scan. The consultant was very kind and thorough. There was no worrying diagnosis, and I was so relieved. As pp, at this stage its all precautionary. Try not to worry, I know its easier said than done. 💐

Thanks, I think what has really thrown me is the GP finding this armpit lump too which makes me think the worst, having this along with a breast lump on the same side. I’m just assuming this means my risk is higher but hope that I’m wrong x

Please try not to worry at this stage, knowledge is power and you’re going to be in the right place. I was referred to breast clinic when I was 29 after I went to GP. The initial doctor at the clinic said he couldn’t find a lump and suggested it might be hormonal and was now gone. I looked straight at him and said ‘if you give me your hand I will show you exactly where this lump is’. I still don’t know how he couldn’t find it as you could even see it and I could feel it through my coat at this stage. It had grown since I saw the GP. It ended up being a benign phyllodes tumour and I needed 2 surgeries to fully remove it, first one was 2 weeks later and the other was another few weeks after that. All good now.

Its now a great sign that you also have a lump in armpit but it could be completely unrelated. Best of luck but try not to jump to conclusions x

Friend had same. She visited the clinic last week and it was all benign.
9 out of 10 cases of follow ups usually are.

Even the ones where cancer is found it is usually very treatable.
Fingers crossed.

I’ve had this recently. It was terrifying. My mum had breast cancer so just thought that’s it, it’s here. But all was well.

My mum said she was the only one diagnosed in the clinic that morning, try to take some comfort from that.

Hi, I was like you and found a lump in my breast, had a biopsy and whilst waiting for the results found a lump in my armpit.

sadly, it was not good news and I have bc that travelled to lymph nodes, good news, very treatable if caught early enough and even though mine is aggressive, after a year of treatment I’m coming towards the end of it this year, all done and dusted.

hopefully it’s nothing, but if it is something, these things are very treatable these days.

I would second what other people have said, most of the time it’s nothing serious. However - what I would say is take someone with you because if it is cancer they may well tell you there and then. I wasn’t expecting that and it was very hard to deal with on my own.
I had triple negative breast cancer which is quite aggressive, not going to lie the treatment was tough. But I am still here and 3 years clear.

Hiya, I’ve been referred to breast clinic today too. Large lump under my right breast. Already planned my own funeral numerous times since I found it. Have you been given an appointment yet @KDM73?

I was there yesterday after finding a lump - gp said she wasn’t concerned about the lump I found but she could feel a different one which obviously made my blood run cold. So yesterday at the hospital I had a mammogram and ultrasound and a biopsy on the lump that I had found as the hospital dr was concerned about that one and couldn’t find the other one the gp found. But the lump I found turned out to be a fibroadenoma which is a very common benign breast lump. I do understand the worry but it could be lots of other things rather than sinister xx

I got an appointment by text a couple
of days after and it’s for a week on Monday. The wait has been hard, especially the first few days. Trying to get on as normal and not think about it but it is pretty much in my head all day! I just keep telling myself that loads of people get referred to the breast clinic and the vast majority are fine. @spinks999 I’ve read a lot of people having these type of lumps, sure you’ll have been relieved!
