Sooo, I have a few health issues, ibs being one of them, I have high blood pressure and thyroid issues.

because of the above I have yearly blood tests. On the 22nd of July I had my usual test, the nurse commented on my swollen feet but it was hot etc. so I thought no more about it. A week later I get a message from the gp they need to speak to me as the test shows I’m slightly anaemia but no worries, so I call and the first appointment was for Monday the 17th.

GP phones, and tells me I need to go statins I said I would think about it I wasn’t keen but he agreed that we could discuss that later. The anaemia though. With my ibs and the type of blood cells etc, he says it points to bowel Cancer !

I mean I was told it wasn’t urgent then all of a sudden 2 weeks later it is, I did my samples and DH took them to the surgery yesterday. He has fast tracked me for treatment, but nothing would happen for 2 weeks because waiting for the results and he was on holiday !.

at this point I thought well it can’t be to worrying with all the waiting around, and he did say the high heat could have upset the blood tests ? But then he said he would happily come out that day a discuss it all with me, and what the process is and what will happen etc, I said to wait for the results of the samples, in hindsight maybe this was wrong, but I was really in disbelief at this point,

know tonight, I don’t know, I’m terrified. He said about the change of bowel but I’ve had ibs for nearly 10 years it’s no different now than it has been for 10 years.

the thought of waiting another 1 and 1/2 weeks and then what, what if it is.

im going round in circles.

if you’ve got this far, I’m sorry, I just needed to say it, to acknowledge, and to admit to myself I might have cancer, I don’t feel any different, tired more than normal but otherwise just me.

Anemia could be lots of different things. They do screen for bowel cancer but, even if you have blood in your stool samples, it could just be polyps that need removing. Your IBS diagnosis could turn out to actually be IBD. I wouldn't leap to any conclusions yet.

I know, 🥹 I keep telling myself that, but then I think about him offering to come out to my home that day to discuss if I needed it (I’m housebound). A doctor doesn’t do that this day and age. I went on my records, and it’s all about being fast tracked and immediate action if I call in etc.

its just all unnerved me tonight.

My understanding is that they can only know for sure with a colonoscopy. All the Fit test will tell you is whether there is blood present in your stool sample. I would be pushing for a colonoscopy if he suspects bowel cancer.

Its standard testing for all anemic people.
I declined the tests as its so OTT but appreciate the risk.

Its simply a box tick exercise.

Take care and hope everything is ok.
