A slab of ready made Madeira cake for detail. I am a couple of days post chemo, it hurts to walk and I am exhausted. I have drunk lots of water and lay next to a fan. I couldn't face anything else and do you know what - I don't feel guilty! Has the heat impacted anyone else' appetite on chemo?

Wishing you all the very best x

And if cake is what you want, have cake! Well done on eating something and best wishes for your recovery.

Useraxiomak1 · 13/08/2026 23:36

Be kind to yourself, OP. I’m in Scotland so it’s not hot at all but I had chemo earlier this year and just ate what I felt like eating .. a lot of the time it’s was just cake as I found it comforting and easily digestible.
Chemo does change your taste buds so some things taste better than others. Also with the chemo, days 4-5 were the worst for me and I felt much better in week 2.
Take things easy, listen to your body and don’t feel an ounce of guilt !

I may try something healthier tomorrow as no sleep due to the amount of sugar

But importantly, did you enjoy the cake?!

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 14/08/2026 01:46

No one is going to grudge you your cake.
I have not had Madeira cake in a long time
To reiterate pp
Wishing you well with recovery.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/08/2026 01:48

The cake was fabulous. Squishy for the sore mouth and sticky icing!

Enjoy whatever you want to eat OP, healthy eating can wait a while. Wishing you all the best.

When I’m on chemo, I eat cream slices in abundance! Don’t feel bad or guilty. Chemo definitely alters your taste buds and certain foods and drinks, can taste bad. I find water tastes grim, like ash even. I like fresh fruit smoothies when my mouth is sore, but you enjoy your cake. 🍰

All the best OP.

I understand how sugar can impact on your ability to sleep. If cake is what you want/all you can stomach, then cake it is. I'd be letting people know that I'm enjoying cake- you might get some home made gifts!!!. Good luck with your treatment OP. Love a big slab of cake with custard Smile

Pancakeflipper · 14/08/2026 10:56

You need cake.

I had images of me doing chemo eating soooo healthy... helping myself to better health...
the reality was sucking pieces of Belgian chocolate (had to be a particular type).

Don't feel guilty about cake. Lots of luck x

Calories are all that matters when you are feeling rubbish. Well done on eating something Flowers

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/08/2026 12:11

@BCBirdnow I want custard!
Have been a little more healthy today and had fruit! My mouth is starting to explode now so will just be soft and bland for a few days. The joys!

I am on immunotherapy, but my year of treatment before this left me without much appetite. I am currently on a 3 almond magnum a day habit. Well, the Lidl version because I’m not rich enough for 3 magnums a day. 😂 I feel no guilt. It’s lovely to eat again.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 14/08/2026 23:01

Enjoy your cake! Have they given you the nice mouth drops, I can’t remember what they’re called but they tasted almondy to me what I had chemo and they helped loads with my sore mouth.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/08/2026 23:15

Let her eat cake!

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/08/2026 23:20

I have mouth drops that make my teeth feel really shiny!
I will channel my inner Marie Antoinette and eat cake (and brioche for the purists!).
