Suspected cancer behind child’s knee

I am putting this post out here to see if anyone has experienced the same thing as we are going through right now. My daughter has had a large, solid mass behind her knee for what we know atleast 6 weeks. This mass is unmovable and is growing . After several visits with the doctor and not really being listened too a doctor eventually had a proper feel and suspects possible cancer. We have been put on an urgent referral and a x-ray is being done this week and we have another appointment the following week. The anxiety/ waiting is quite frankly unbearable and we are all struggling massively. My poor daughter has only just turned 4. Has anyone experienced this and what was the outcome. The doctor has said this is definitely not a cyst and is connected a lot deeper so this rules out bakers cyst, Thankyou

My son had a similar lump on his ankle and at the time there was no 2 week pathway.
We had to wait 3 months for a hospital appointment, and yes, it was cancer.
The 2 week pathway was introduced during the time he was on chemotherapy.
I often wonder if he would still be alive today if we hadn't had the delay.
I hope the appointment goes well and you get answers quickly. Getting seen so fast is incredible. I'm glad the system works this way now.

We ended up having an ultrasound which showed it was completely filled with fluid and not a solid mass as previously thought! We are so grateful and happy that our daughter is okay!

The two weeks referral would it away anyway…

It migut well be that the GP insisted on a potential cancer but it could be many other things etc… just needs to be ruled out and so in.

And the OP just heard cancer.

Which Tbh is fair enough. Many (most?) people would, despite a doctor making it clear it’s just one option.

Not saying it though is, imo, worse.
First because the two week referral woukd make you wonder. But also why hiding information to the parents (or patient when older)? That’s usually making things worse tbh

This is what frustrated me when it first came up about my son having cancer.

The doctor said it could be something as simple as a complication with appendicitis or something ‘more sinister’ and I had to practically make him say the word cancer.

That is fabulous news so pleased for you.

The fact your GP referred you so quickly is to be applauded - thank them from all of us whose GPs were not so great.

My DD had this as a 3 year old.
Like you, we were referred to paediatrics and she had an ultrasound scan.
He said that at some point she will have damaged her knee capsule and the fluid was synovial fluid leaking out. They said it would disappear as she grew. It did.
