Scared it’s cancer

I have a one year sore which hasn’t healed because I pick it when I’m stressed. It’s solid under it and I saw the GP last week, she thinks it’s cancer. I have a scan next month.

Where is it on your body? It may well be something easily treated like a basal cell carcinoma.

Did she actually say that she thinks it's cancer or did she just suggest that you should get tested.

A scan next month doesn't sound like they're treating it as an urgent case? I've been on the two week referral pathway a couple of times now, and it is scary but it hasn't been cancer on either occasion.

Hope it turns out to be something trivial.

Ok, wanting to rule out cancer is different from thinking it is cancer - she is basically just taking precautions.

I know it's hard, but try not to worry. If it's bad news, you can figure out how to cope with it then, but the chances are, it will all be fine so there is no point in wasting precious energy worrying when you really don't know what it is.

She said it could be cancer that’s what scared me
but if it’s cancer surely it’d be worse after 12 months

I think GPs are trained to look out for any potential signs of cancer so that they can be investigated and hopefully caught early.

According to Google, only around 6-7% of people referred on the two week cancer pathways are actually diagnosed with cancer - so the odds are pretty good. And even in the unlikely event that it is cancer, it's still better to know.
