Postive FIT test and super worried

Hello, I am a 42yr old mum. I have two gorgeous children ages 8 & 10 and a very supportive husband. I have had,on and off, low iron for the last 6 yrs. I have taken iron tablets with not much improvement. I started to get stomach cramps/stitch like feeling at the top of my stomach along with looser stools and back ache but still only going once a day. Was advised to do a fit test which came back positive at 16 when the boarder line is 10. I had done one 2 yrs ago which was a result of 2. I am so worried about my Colonoscopy which is on Friday. I have completely written myself off and can't stop thinking about the kids. Anyone with positive advice? Thank you

In 2022 I had a positive Fit for 29 IIRC. My consultant said that there is a 1/10 chance that it is bowel cancer but of course that’s all you hear. Mine turned out to be a tiny polyp which they removed during the colonoscopy and was benign.

Nothing any of us say can make you worry less but you don’t have long to wait and they told me the outcome then and there with the lab reports a couple of days later. All the best for Friday.

I think the statistics are something like 96% of people who have a positive FIT test do not have cancer. So please don’t assume the worst. My Dh had a positive FIT (with figures much worse than yours) and his colonoscopy was completely normal. Most people’s are. It’s often just internal piles, or possibly something like colitis etc. I know it’s hard not to panic - my Mum and Gran both died of bowel cancer, but at this stage don’t assume it’s cancer.

Thanks so much @WatieKatie and @Pepperedpickles for responding. I definitely have major anxiety so I am my own worst enemy so the more I think about it, the more I feel the pains. I just need to get to Friday.
I am so sorry @Pepperedpickles to hear about your mum and Gran, it's just so unfair.

My fit test was over 200 but I didn’t have cancer. Hope it’s the same for you.
