Partner saw GP due to a sore feeling 1 side of the throat which has been persistent for a couple of weeks (which originally was noticed after a sore throat/couple approx 5weeks ago). Saw the GP last week who felt the neck and said he felt a lymph node (but didn’t say anything else about it). He went on to saying he doesn’t feel like there’s anything to worry about however as it’s still present he will request for some bloods and go from there. On Saturday on the nhs app partner noticed they have been referred to Head & Neck Cancer Clinic (they will be calling tomorrow), partner had bloods done today.

why would the GP not tell us they were going to refer my partner to this clinic? I’m really worried now, is this normal procedure?

Hello
They should have said something I think rather than just leave him to see it on the app. But on the positive side it's good that the GP is proactive and has referred him to be checked out.

Until I read the last part I was thinking if he has been ill I would have expected to have englarged glands for weeks or even months afterwards. No idea why the GP would not tell you about the referral. I suffer with health anxiety but to be honest if I had been ill with a sore throat and my glands were swollen, cancer would have been the last thing on my mind.

Hopefully the GP is just being very cautious and it turns out to be nothing and the soreness will settle. Fingers crossed for you both

Partner has spoken to the clinic and they’ve suggested they are very low risk. They have scheduled an appointment for early March as they don’t believe it’s anything to worry about especially since the blood tests.
