Biopsy results

I had my breast biopsy results a few weeks ago and they were benign which is great but they didn’t fit with what they were expecting from the mammogram (4cm area picked up at routine mammogram) so I had a vacuum biopsy just over a week ago, I’ve been called back for results appointment for next Tuesday appointment came through just over a week after the mammogram so I’m thinking this means they have the results in. Last time my appointment got put back as my results had to be discussed at a meeting and I’m thinking it’s the same again although they didn’t give me appointment up front this time. Is it a bad sign if they can’t just give you the results and without them having to be discussed? I’m thinking if it was that clear cut and all is fine there would be nothing to discuss so this is a bad sign. Am in over thinking it and you really can’t tell?

I don’t want to scare you, and it could absolutely be a number of things, but with my surgeon I was told that once a week they, numerous oncologists, surgeons, all the big cheeses gather and review the cases and make a decision on what to do.

i unfortunately have BC but i was the subject of these meetings a few times as on one occasion they couldn’t decide if id need another biopsy, one part of my scan was indeterminate, they all made th decision for another (of many) scans and the additional problem had gone.

so it really isn’t for anyone to say, but if they are having a meeting then at least your case is being reviewed and your in the best hands.

My guess would be you are a tricky case because, if I understand correctly, you’ve had two biopsies on two different areas of concern over several weeks. That sounds more complicated than is typical. It doesn’t mean it’s cancer, but it’s possible they are discussing you at the MDT to figure out how to advise you, what follow up you need, etc.

I don’t have breast cancer (I have melanoma), but I’m not sure I was even discussed at the MDT before results. They came back and I was told within 24 hours. I didn’t even have an appointment. I was in hospital that day for a surgical dressing change and the cancer nurses tracked me down and whisked me into a side room.

I got called back after two biopsies. I was also one of the cases discussed at the pre-clinic meeting. They just wanted to tell me my results were still a bit inconclusive, but they didn't want to do yet another biopsy because they were pretty sure all was fine and was I okay with that. Don't worry until you have to. Good luck.

@mindutopia its the same 4cm area but it’s inside so there is nothing to see from the outside so I had to have both biopsies under X-ray so they knew where to stick the needles. The first was a core biopsy which was benign but they said it could be because they had happened not to take cells from the right part of the 4cm area so I then had a vacuum biopsy which can suck up cells from a wIder area so they get more coverage.

@Mamabear0202 yes my first results were supposed to be on a Friday last time and they got delayed to the Tuesday and I found out after that is becuase they wanted to discuss it at the meeting, so with it being on a Tuesday again that’s the main reason thinking it’s becuase they need to discuss findings,

@AudiobookListener hopefully it’s nothing to worry about, I’ve actually been really calm until the appointment came through

I’m sorry you’re feeling so understandably anxious. These things drive you crazy.

Mine WAS cancer. This time last year.
Thought my brain would fall out with the stress initially.
The uncertainty is horrible, especially this time of year. All of the ‘what ifs’ make it difficult to actually do the normal things.

Just wanted to send hugs, and good thoughts.

My experience hasn’t been a terrible ordeal. I didn’t love it, but it gave me some valuable perspective.
Treatment was fast and effective.

I lost my sister to breast cancer, so I had catastrophised everything.
it was completely unnecessary.

Hoping you get some answers soon.

results got put back again so I only got them this week after Christmas, they said they had discussed them at the MDT meeting on Monday so I guess that was reason for delay. They came back benign becuase area is large and looks suspicious they now want to do a biopsy under general anestetic to take out the whole area and then test it
