Hi,
just wondering if anyone could help I had some routine bloods done just because I was suffering with some intermittent chest aching.
Everything was clear apart from the raised platelets,
i will attach photo of results, had it checked a week later which was slightly less and again had it checked 2 months later and only very slightly less.
i also had inflammation and iron checked which are normal (i used to suffer wirh low iron in last 3 years)
please if anyone could shed any experience.
Google is saying very scary things!

Don't look at Google - it will send you down multiple rabbit holes.

Who conducted these tests ?
Have you been given an opportunity to discuss the results at all ?

How old are you, and are you female?

Newbutoldfather · 16/12/2025 12:00

You haven’t really attached what is normal and what is abnormal.

But, these results aren’t wildly abnormal at all.

’Normal’ ranges are decided on a 95% confidence interval of healthy adults, so 5% of healthy adults have tests outside the range.

Also, very small things can cause people to have slightly off blood tests. I would wager a majority of healthy adults (especially as they get older) would have a few results outside the ‘normal’ range with a full range of blood tests.

Generally, if you are properly ill, you will have dramatic blood tests.

Sorry, it was my GP that requested them as part of something routine, but then have had them checked twice since and not really much change. I have been referred to a haematologist but have been told there is a long wait.
thanks

I have raised platelets - 465 at my last count. The levels have been higher but are now staying level-ish. It's been almost 10 years now.

I've been seen by haematology and they can find no reason for my levels being high. Bone marrow biopsy showed no abnormalities and I was discharged back to my GP.

Ignore Google and try not to worry. Easier said than done, though, so remember that Google always wants to present you with the worst case.

3 yes ago I had raised platelets. I'm a 56yr old female.
I had a chest x-ray, gyne ultrasound, another ultrasound of my liver and breasts, and also a FIT test for my poo. I really felt like I'd had a full body MOT, and am very grateful that I was fully checked out.
All the scans etc were all normal.
I was then prescribed iron tablets, and had a blood test every 3mths, and gradually my platelet levels came back to within normal range.
It was a very scary time, and waiting for all the results seemed to take forever. For me, the cause was something that could be easily sorted, hopefully it is for you too.

Thank you for your reply I’m glad you was able to get sorted. I know it’s a scary time.
what was your level of platelets if you don’t mind me asking and was your iron low?
Thanks x

My platelets were 657, my iron was 9.2, so iron was within range, but only just.

I’m a haematology nurse and platelets go up and down all the time. Usually platelets shoot up when you’ve had a viral infection. If everything g else is normal I would forget about this
