17yr son suspected cancer?!

Hi!
I don’t even know where to start.

My son has had a lump/bump on side of his head since he was around 4/5 - dr said normal lump and bump nothing to be worried about. Has slowly grown through the years again told it’s ok. It was unnoticeable to others and was sort of white/grey ish colour.

last week, he walked into kitchen and he has now only what I can describe as a medium/large balloon like lump on his head, it’s bright red and it’s fully attached to scalp, soft to touch he’s says not too painful it feels like when you pick at a scab so I guess a tingling sensation when knocked.

took him doctors next morning, expecting it to be a cyst and it’s infected/inflamed was expecting antibiotics and possibly drained after the course of anti biotics.

whilst the doctor was also examining his head, she came across a raised patch in another part of scalp that’s quite red and scaly.

hes now on a 2week pathway for suspected skin cancer?! Wtf?! Thankfully I asked him to wait outside whilst I spoke to doctor and she informed me she is very concerned with how it’s been slow growing over years but all of a sudden has grown rapidly and changed colour, she’s told me she’s worried and she suspects skin cancer however she isn’t a specialist so I should keep a open mind.

Hes unaware they’re thinking cancer he’s just aware that it’s a urgent referral to find out what it is, I don’t want to tell him what they’re suspecting because it’ll just worry him.

I don’t think it’s sunk in, it’s still surreal and doesn’t feel like this is happening, I have booked a private consultation with a specialist on Wednesday but I have no idea how I’m going to get through till then.

im not eating, sleeping I’m just surviving I’m such a mess but I need to keep it together I just have no idea what I’m suppose to do

I'm glad you got good news and I hope you're all having a lovely Christmas!

My DM was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, a few days before Christmas. Consequently, her annual CT scans to check for any signs of recurrence were also just before Christmas. She usually got the results by letter. After her last follow-up scan (five years after diagnosis), she got a phone call on Christmas Eve and immediately feared the worst. Nope, a doctor just wanted to let her know before Christmas that her scan was clear. It's a wonderful feeling!
