Biopsy and prospective diagnosis

I had to go for a call back from first mammogram. Had a biopsy and ultrasound sound and got told pretty much immediately it’s breast cancer. I was a bit shocked that they can tell before results of the biopsy or is this normal? Only small area apparently.

They may well be able to tell from what they can see on the scans, but need the biopsy to pinpoint exactly what type of cancer and so work out a treatment plan for you. Best of luck x

Thank you. It was a bit out of the blue and I was surprised they seemed so sure.. Will have to cross my fingers and toes.

My mum found out this way, they pretty much diagnosed her before the biopsy. She is fine now as it was small, she required surgery and radiotherapy.

I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer last month, when I had an MRI after the diagnosis they found another lump. The Dr was sure it was benign and the biopsy showed this to be true. I think they know what they are looking at pretty quickly.

I hope you are okay and everything goes well.

Yes my mum was told at biopsy that it was definitely cancer, the wait for results was just to find out what type and the subsequent treatment plan: she had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy but is fine now nearly 4 years on. Treatment is really excellent these days. Wishing you all the best

Hope all is as well as can be.
May I ask how soon after your mammogram you were told to go back?

It was about 2 weeks so I thought the letter was the result but it was to go back. Apparently that is quite normal after a first mammogram but this was for a biopsy etc.
