Likely breast cancer after ultrasound- thread 3

Welcome. Previous threads :

Thread 1
Thread 2

The original thread was started after I had a mammogram recall and was told at the ultrasound that it was likely I had breast cancer - before biopsies were taken, and before I was ready to hear that (if you are ever ready to hear that).

Two full threads later we are still sharing support, experiences, and advice. We’ve celebrated breast cancer wins and thrown virtual hugs around those who’ve needed it. (We’ve all needed it 💗)

This is a hugely kind and caring bit of Mumsnet - where we’ve all felt that awful fear waiting for scans, tests, results, or with an early and uncertain breast cancer diagnosis.

You are not alone.

This is the awful club - full of awesome women💗

@alseb I’m sorry it is so tough at the moment. It sounds very much like my experience and better times will come. As a wise poster said, one foot in front of the other.

@OMGitsthebigC sooner in, sooner out. One day at a time - channel St Dolly!

@ohdoriswheresthesalad keep busy and step away from dr Google.

PoptartPoptart · 15/01/2026 09:48

@alseb I know how you feel - it’s easy to lose yourself and get caught up in the whole cancer whirlwind and forget what life was like pre diagnosis.

I also love to travel and the thing that has got me through the last few months is planning a great big ‘fuck off cancer’ holiday for when I get the all clear. I’ve no idea when that will be, and obviously I haven’t booked anything yet, but I have everything planned down to the last detail! It’s helped keep me focused and positive.

Sending you lots of positive vibes and love

PoptartPoptart · 15/01/2026 09:56

@ohdoriswheresthesalad its completely normal to feel terrified. I think most of us have probably felt every single emotion possible at some point or another.

Just keep remembering.. the reality is rarely as bad as the anticipation.

That has been true for every part of my journey so far - from waiting for results/ biopsies/surgery/chemo…

It’s like our brain is hardwired to imagine the worst case scenario all the time. It’s tough.

Sending positive thoughts your way x

alseb · 15/01/2026 14:08

Thank you for your kind words it really helps to know what we are feeling is normal when normality seems to have disappeared!
I had a huge cry last night which seems to have got rid of the anger that has been brewing. Walked the dog, had a sandwich and came home. As they say, this too shall pass! Take care everyone x

So it ended up being in one node, a microscopic amount, 2mm. nothing else found. 1.9cm tumour size. Still grade 1. She said no point staging as it makes no difference to anything.
the tumour is being sent away, like @LoudSnoringDoghas to be tested to see if chemo would add any benefit. She said as it’s hormone driven, and low grade it probably will come back low score but they need to check to make sure my treatment plan is 100% right for me.
I
so some good news and some mediocre news for me today :)

That’s good news. So pleased for you . Hopefully won’t need chemo. Hope you can relax, chill out and enjoy the rest of the evening x

I’m pleased. Just the waiting again now!

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 15/01/2026 19:43

Right - off for my DMX tomorrow morning! Weirdly my appetite came roaring back today so it's been indulgent amongst the heightened emotions, bag packing etc. Let's see. Hugely grumpy that I can't have a coffee tomorrow when I wake up.

@JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch All the best for today, and for a speedy recovery afterwards.

@asleb - sorry to hear your news, a bigger hill to climb must be very daunting. Fingers crossed for your treatment.

@LoudSnoringDog Great news on your pathology results, I've got mine today.

Hope everyone else is coping okay.

LoudSnoringDog · 16/01/2026 15:11

@MrPankshow did you get on today ?

Snoopy1612 · 16/01/2026 15:37

Hoping for some wise words from those that are further along their treatment - had my first cycle 3 days ago, and just feel wiped out! I'm pottering around, done some dishes, washings etc. but don't have the energy to really do anything! Am I expecting too much off myself?

dancingwhilstfacingthemusic · 16/01/2026 15:40

@Snoopy1612 this sounds normal. Please rest when you can and you’ll bounce back better in a few days. Days 3-6 were my worst and I needed to hydrate a lot, rest and have little walks. If I overdid it I was more wiped the following days. I know it may not be easy but rest as much as you can.

Lovewine1975 · 16/01/2026 19:45

@Snoopy1612thats definitely normal, I find day 3
– 5 are the worse for that and then my energy starts returning. Resting is the best advise and sleep if you need to, I think of it as my body’s recharging after the chemo x

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 16/01/2026 19:51

Surgery done, all ok. I’ve eaten, drunk and moved around a bit. In overnight now. So far happy with what I see when I look down. Thank you all for the words of support and encouragement.

Glad to her it went well. It’ll be my turn in couple of weeks xx

StartupRepair · 16/01/2026 20:09

Well done @JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch it is a relief when it is over. I found myself very weepy about 3 days afterwards. Nurse said it's like the baby blues. Your body and mind are processing the shock. Go very gently and rest as much as you can.

dancingwhilstfacingthemusic · 16/01/2026 20:38

Well done @JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch take it steady.

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 16/01/2026 20:48

@JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch glad you’re ok, take it easy xx
