my mum 68 is receiving chemo for ovarian cancer.. and agressive form apparently. Her latest bloods have came back flagged because he haemoglobin is low it’s 116 I think. Should I ring and her doctor? Or is this totally normal, apologises this is all new to us no one I know has ever had chemo

116 is not that low tbh. I’m on a brutal chemo regime and my HB is 87, has been for weeks.

If your mum is symptomatic (
breathless/ dizzy) then she may be offered a blood transfusion. Also, it is down to her oncology team to decide whether she is well enough for chemo. If not, they may delay until she feels better.

I hope all goes well with her treatment.

😊

Depending on the hospital, HB needing urgent treatment is anything less than 80. It’s low for a ‘normal’ person but not dangerously so

If anything worrying flags up on bloods, my oncologist rings the day after they take them. If the results have made their way to you and no one is concerned, I’d take that as a good sign. But yes, there is no harm in ringing to ask the question. Do you have a nurse triage number? This is exactly the sort of thing I’d ring them about and they can discuss with the doctor and get back to you.

Thanks guys I think the hospital has seen them and we haven’t heard from them and she’s totally fine.. she’s took chemo like a trooper, from what they said it’s the top tier chemo she’s on and she’s doing good
