Another 2 week pathway query

(sorry this turned out to be longer than anticipated).

I can see there are a number of 2 week pathway queries but I’m not sure exactly how it works - if anyone can enlighten me.

I had post-meno bleeding last week and saw GP same day who put me on 2 week pathway.

had an ultrasound the next day (Thursday).

The sonographer didn’t give an indication of when I would get results- I don’t think I asked. (Head was spinning a bit).

Today my anxiety got the better of me and I contacted the GP surgery and asked if they could give me an idea of how long I would wait for results. (I contacted them on the online portal).

I got a phone call 5 minutes later saying that she (admin) had contacted the hospital where I had the scan and they told her that they had sent off the scan to a consultant today.

I was surprised that it had only been sent today (6 days later).
Anyone know why there would be a wait like that?
Presumably I’m now in for another wait while the scans are looked at.

I do have problems with anxiety, particularly health related, and I may be BU. I don’t really know what to expect and I’m sure it varies from area to area
thanks.

A radiologist will see your scan first, write a report and then send that to the consultant who ordered your scan. Your consultant will be looking at your scan report on an urgent basis now and will contact you soon to talk to you about the results and any plan.

The six day wait is purely because that's how long it takes for a human to look at the images and write their report on it. Remember, radiology departments can do scans and imaging much faster than a human can look at and make an assessment of those images, and these departments can do hundreds of images per day, so there's always a backlog for the humans who have to look at them.

I hope all goes well for you and you hear very soon.

I’ve had a call from the Gynae Team saying I have to have a blood test for CA125. She said if it’s normal I will have to have another scan / blood test in 4 months. If it’s raised then I have to have a Gynae appt.

I don’t understand if that means they have seen something on the scan (I’m assuming they have). I asked the person who rang me but she said she didn’t know.

This is actually quite reassuring. I had the tranabdominal/transvaginal scan (I presume this is the one you’ve had) and got a text message to see my GP 3 days later to discuss- it had come back as abnormal and I had to have a hysteroscopy and a biopsy on a polyp which was clear. The CA125 is a gynaecology cancer marker. The 4 month monitoring is a wait and see approach for something which doesn’t require urgent care. I’m having this for a small cyst on my ovary in 4 months. It doesn’t sound as if they have found anything concerning, however want to do the CA125 to be more sure before leaving it for 4 months.

Thank you @fluffythecat1I appreciate you giving your experience and yes that does sound reassuring.

I am imagining the worst, because that is me, but need to try to focus on other things. Thank you ☺️

Completely natural. I was swinging from the rafters when they put me on the 2ww pathway, they do take post menopausal bleeding seriously. If you log into the NHS app you should be able to find reports etc on there with more info.
