My friend has just been diagnosed with this yesterday. She's been in hospital for various unexplained issues although now it's been confirmed. They're talking about some hormone therapy but she's too distressed to explain it to me properly. It turns out she's had a lump for about 9-10 months and hasn't told anyone until she went in hospital for other reasons - which turned out to be related to this as was "sciatica".

Can anyone help please? Thank you.

I am sorry to hear that. What help are you seeking? It's natural in these circumstances to want to be reassured and to be armed with information, but actually what your friend needs is for you to be her friend and listen to her at her own pace and give her the reassurance that you are standing with her. Keep an eye out for opportunities to offer practical support (lifts to hospital, help around the house to save her energy etc) and don't push her for details. If she asks you to help with that it's different of course. Worth having a look at the Maggies pages for advice on how to support people and a bit of support for yourself
