My 1 year old nephew starts chemotherapy today for AtRt which is. Brain tumor, they removed 95% but it's fast growing. It hasn't spread.

Any advice? Visitors are down to 2 people do his parents will tag team staying with him. The schedule looks intense both for them and my nephew.

Any chemotherapy advice? Thanks in advance.

Im so sorry to read this. My partner has a brain tumour. I cant imagine what it must feel like when the patient is a child.

The Brain Tumour Charity have been very helpful so if not already in touch suggest that. They offer some counselling sessions - his parents will be eligible - and a FB support group for parents of under 18s i think.

My partner had a different type of chemo so I can't comment - the oncologist and clinical nurse specialist should be able to share more information about the treatment and side effects. Is your nephew going to be an inpatient?

Oh hang on just seen ATrt is the type of tumour. What type of chemo is your nephew on?

Visiting will but up to the individual ward. We allow two adults at the bedside at any one time. But doesn’t mater who they are.

I don't know actually but I do know it's a year of treatment in 2 week bursts. So 4 days of chemo, 2 days go flush then 8 days rest. This will last for a year, he has been on hospital since the start of June. He gets Radiotherapy when he turns 2 which is September.

Thank you very much for the replies.

Just an update. He passed away in November 2025, he had 2 weeks out of hospital then 6 weeks in an amazing Children's Hospice. Much love to anyone going through this.
