Urgent Gastro referral

Back at GP for fourth time in as many months today. Feel sick most of the time, been sick a few times, feel
like there’s a lump in my throat. Sometimes don’t want to eat, sometimes do. Thought this was all possible alcohol related gastritis as drank far too much since my dad died last year and while he was ill. Been off the booze for nearly two weeks, eating healthily, exercising and feel no better.
Saw a different GP today as mine on holiday and now it’s red flag, panic stations, urgent gastro referral. ‘I’m not saying you’ve got cancer, but we need to check’ she said.
My mind is in overdrive and I’m more than a little bit scared. DH has told me off for googling but I can’t help it.

Your DH is right. Google won't help. You'll just end up reading irrelevant, frightening content that may not even be accurate.

There are rigid criteria for the urgent referral pathways such that for most people they are about confirming it's NOT cancer.

I doubt that your body would recover from over a year of drinking and bereavement stress in a fortnight.

Right now you're just going for tests to rule out anything serious. That's the only fact here, everything else is just thoughts at this stage.

I was put on the cancer pathway a few weeks ago, apparently 9 in 10 referrals are negative for cancer.

I was seen very rapidly. 2 days after referral by first specialist, 10 days after that by second specialist (and straight into testing, not just an appointment). So far so good, just one more scan to get done.

Don't goggle, it honestly won't help.

I hope it all comes back clear and there's a boring and treatable reason for it.

@FedUpandEatingChocolate@sandrevolutionary

thanks for your replies. Been for the gastroscopy today and they couldn’t see anything but have done eight biopsies.

@FedUpandEatingChocolate I hope things are going positively for you
