Subungual melanoma

I have a suspected subungal melanoma on my thumb. I've been referred to dermatology and in the 2ww for an appointment.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of cancer/melanoma?

Gosh I have never heard of a melanoma under a nail! So glad it is benign. Out of pure curiosity, how would they treat that? Remove the nail?

Apparently it's common in persons of colour (which I am) and it's said to be rare but an aggressive form of cancer.
If a biopsy was needed then all my nails would have to be removed.

Mine turned out to be benign, but I have a follow up in 4 months. The stripe on my nail still remains though.
