Discrimination returning to work after breast cancer

Has anyone else found their employer supremely ignorant about their responsibilities to employees returning to work after breast cancer? I'm now faced with taking my employer to an Employment Tribunal for discrimination harassment and victimisation - they failed to deliver grievance outcomes and will not make any adaptations. Oh and guess who my employers are..... The NHS. The organisation that saved my life is now happy to financially destroy it.

I’m sorry you are facing this situation after going through what I am sure was a challenging and traumatic period of treatment. I am glad you are on the road to recovery, but clearly you will need time to settle back into work and fully recover. Physically and emotionally. Is there a trades union rep you can speak to for support? I would also contact occupational health and ask … no tell your employer you want a formal referral as they should be ensuring any reasonable adjustments are made and your return to work is paced and monitored. I wonder if it’s your immediate line manager who is not being supportive? If that’s the case can you speak to his/her boss? If this isn’t possible and you cannot get support internally I would contact ACAS for support. Please remember you are protected under the Equality Act, so the law is on your side and the lack of support you are getting is not okay. I hope you don’t let this slide and you have support from a colleague / home as this is a lot to deal with on your own. Other people to offer help are Macmillan’s and Maggie’s who have lots of experience and tools available to help and advise you. Wishing you well with your recovery and into the future x
