Fear of recurrence - ultrasound?

I’m almost 17 years on from having breast cancer diagnosed at age 36. The last mammogram I had was in summer 2022 - I’m now over 50 so three-yearly mammograms.

I have been feeling a pinching pain in the scar area for a few weeks. I have a GP appointment but I am not going to be reassured by a GP telling me she can’t feel anything. It is only in the scar area, Not general breast tenderness.

GP 1 - didn’t examine me, “You’re too young”
GP 2 - said it couldn’t be breast cancer because it was painful
GP 3 - reluctantly referred me
7 weeks’ wait
Breast consultant - brief feel of about 3 seconds, nothing is wrong with you.

I had to insist on a scan and it was only discovered by ultrasound and a biopsy. It didn’t show up on a mammogram. In the 6 years since I first saw a GP it had spread into several lymph nodes.

I am due a mammogram this summer but the GP receptionist today said they don’t keep records on their system of mammograms.

Has anyone paid privately for an ultrasound? I’m really worried this GP won’t refer me.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you tell your GP about your history and that you’re really anxious about it then any decent gp would refer you for a reassurance scan
