Anyone else going or have gone flat?

I've just had a single mastectomy after failed lumpectomies.

I'm in my 50's and am not planning on any reconstructive surgery.
My consultant has suggested it might be an option further down the line, but to be honest I'm done with surgery.

It feels as if most people are going for reconstructive surgery but I'm happy with my choice.
TBH I wish I could have the other one taken out of action so at least I'd be symmetrical 😝

How have you found going flat , the good and the bad.

I'm only just post op and have practiced with my temporary prosthesis. Not sure how I feel about it all.

I have an appointment at the end of next month to get a fitting for my silicone boob.

Any tips or support?

My mum had this. Never regretted it, left the flat scar as it was. It was 11 years ago and she has had zero troubles from this surgery. She found the temporary prosthesis and the silicone thing heavy so she simply doesn't bother with them. Depending on size and clothing, it can go unnoticed.

Apparently many people feel done with surgery, like you. My mum certainly did. The flat surgery is much easier to recover from than reconstruction.

Are you having any radiotherapy to the site? Apparently that might make the skin unsuitable for a future reconstruction.

I never bothered just use a prosthetic I figured I'd got enough to deal with regarding life saving surgery never mind unnecessary cosmetic surgery on top
