Possible oral cancer

I had a routine dental appointment a couple of weeks ago and they took routine x rays. The dentist said one of the roots looked unusual. To me it looked like all the others were straight and this one curved inwards, almost like a chunk had been taken out of it. She said she'd refer me to the orthodontist. But today she rung and said she is referring me under the 2 week wait cancer pathway as it could be oral cancer. I feel like she's gone away and spoken to someone and they have said they think it's cancer.

I've never smoked, I'm 42 with young children and I'm so scared it's oral cancer.

Does anyone have any experience of this. The waiting is awful and I can't seem to find much about treatment, survival rates etc. I've gone fully down a rabbit hole. I wish I'd never gone to the routine appointment as I'd be none the wiser. I don't think I have any symptoms but obviously now I'm re-thinking that and wondering about absolutely every thing.

I think she's just being on the safe side. I know it's hard not to worry but they need to investigate. 💐

Step away from the net and Dr Google OP.

There's no sense in wishing you'd not gone to a routine appointment - it's best to get things checked out.

Don't panic. They have to check these things out and tend to be cautious. I was also referred by dentist under the 2ww and everything was fine.
