My friend is having a cancerous lump removed today. I'm not sure what treatment t is next just yet.

I have made a gift bag with some treats and things I know she loves.

But I have no idea what to write in her card?

Im really worried about saying something that may upset her. Want to keep away from the "you got this!"kind of statements.

But something encouraging and thoughtful, I'm not great with words.

Thanks

There was a recent thread "cancer corkers" , have a look.
As long as you avoid anything along the lines of battle, fight, conquer etc you'll be fine.
I'd just write "thinking about you".

Then keep in touch. Friends drift off some straight away and others after the big hoohah.

I would say stick to what you do know and the short term rather than anything sweeping if that makes sense. Coping with cancer is very step by step and it's fine that you don't know how to reassure her indefinitely. I would also say, even if she's a real joker, I would let her lead on humour rather than making light of things yourself. So, I would wish her luck for the operation, and you're sending loads of love, thinking of her. So it's fine to be relatively General i suppose. What matters is being there

@Boope and @Catandsquirrel agreed - two good posts there.

You sound like a good and considerate friend so are already doing well.
Unless you are cancer experienced yourself, don't say you know how it feels. Don't offer reassurance about their prognosis. Do offer reassurance that you are thinking of them and there for them. Above all, don't look at or speak to them as though their dog just died.

@Catandsquirrel words are perfect.

Someone said to me-

This is really shit.

I liked that!
