Cancer pain

My father has prostate cancer with bone metastasis. Gleason 9. Hes started on hormone therapy and chemotherapy. I think he’s in a lot of pain because he is very bad tempered and lashes out at everybody over anything. he’s taking paracetamol for the pain but when I suggest he asks his doctor for something stronger, he rages at me.

he is mainly bed bound.

any advice how to deal with it? I’m in a different country and call every other day at least, but I’m increasingly scared to do so as hes in such a bad mood so much of the time.

I should add, my mother, his main carer, is of the opinion that pain is ‘curative’ and that to cure yiu need to feel the pain and that anybody with a lower pain threshold than her is a wimp (yes, apparently I don’t love my child as much as she loves me because I had a C section so I didn’t experience childbirth pain…).

anybidy else been/going through something similar?

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do. The patient has to let the medical professionals know how much pain he is in for them to help him.

In terms of your mum, she's not being supportive or advocating for your dad which must be hard to see.

Sorry you're going through this. I am going going through something similar so understand the frustration you must be feeling.
