Colonoscopy

I have been referred for a colonoscopy due to pain and results from a dye scan. They have sent plenvu as my prep.

has anyone had this and if so how was it? I am severely emetophobic so stressing it will make me vomit as well as empty my bowels. Ridiculously the thought of vommiting is as
scarey as the thought of cancer which judging by the Drs faces it will probably turn out to be.

not a great start to 2025

Yes, I have. I'm afraid it's not pleasant but unfortunately none of these preps are (I've also experienced Moviprep, which I think involved twice the amount of liquid ).

The standard advice given to help it go down, is to make it up beforehand and chill it, suck it though a straw and have several sips of plain water between each sip of the Plenvu.

I can’t remember my prep name but it tasted lemony. I read lots of advice on here before and followed it and wasn’t remotely nauseous.

I bought measuring jug with lid, straws, some lemon diluting juice, some lemons, some lemonade and made ice cubes. I made up the prep in the jug and filled a glass. I followed the instructions carefully. Before I sucked up the potion, I sucked a lemon slice ( always loved them - guess you could try orange or another strong flavour that coats your tongue) - I then sucked it up though the straw which took it to back of mouth and minimised taste. Was fine. Occasionally had sip of juice or something nicer at end of glass. You do it over several hours. No cramping pain - it’s just like peeing.

Suggest you take the pre prep days diet very seriously - white foods etc. That means I think that everything will be easier.

I had sedation for procedure and was completely painless. Best of luck.

Thank you both. I will have to put my big girl pants on and suck it up. My sim has one uears
afo and didn’t vomit, nor my sister so I will keep everything crossed.

And don't go too far from the toilet once you start drinking it, and use wet wipes to soothe your bottom a bit. (I found I got through the whole of the first dose before it started working but only half way through the second). Be prepared to be spending several hours sat on the toilet.

Best of luck with it all

Hello, emetophobe here!! (Big emetophobe)!!!

I had my colonoscopy this Thursday and also had Plenvu. I went and asked for anti sickness before but didn't get any. HOWEVER - it was absolutely fine. No nausea at all, I also found the taste to be ok, not unbearable at all.

I didn't feel nauseas throughout the night, just on the toilet a lot.

I had sedation which made me feel dizzy but not sick. You'll be fine. Promise. Feel free to message me.

Hi.
I have Emetophobia. It's the only thing about having a colonoscopy that worried me, ridiculous I know. I phoned the help line to ask if I could take anti sickness meds if need be, they said that would be okay.
I didn't need them, didn't feel sick at all. I did drink the first glass full very slowly, then waited an hour to make sure I was okay, before I drank the rest. Good luck.

@pinkwillowtree and @Idontlikethewinter thank you for the reassurance. I had a Dr appt on Friday (actually with a paramedic) who was so lovely and I asked about more anti emetics. He prescribed a bottle of 100 to keep me going until a diagnosis. Whatever I have got is messing with my digestive system. If I eat anything after 2ish I am up all night feeling so sick. Currently feeling very sorry for myself but have taken a tablet and waiting for it to kick in.
I had blood taken for the ovarian cancer marker and am also waiting for a referral for more imaging of my ovaries.
I hope your results are all good x
