Blood in stool

Last month I had a lot of blood after bowel movement, bowl all look red. This was the first time I had experience this. I went to the GP, who took bloods and asked for a stool sample, which he said would be checked for cancer markers. These came back clear and said that I have haemorrhoid's.

last week I saw some blood again, however a lot less than the first episode, and then again today. Now I am getting really scared as it seems to be occurring more frequently and regularly.

not sure what I am asking, as am an anxious person as it is. I am guessing I should go back to the doctor.. thank you for reading

Yes, go back to your doctor, and perhaps see if he will put you forward for a colonoscopy.

But rest assured that, although blood in your stools is one possible symptom for bowel cancer, there are any number of other reasons for it, such as haemorrhoids (as alsready suggested), polyps, IBS, Crohns etc

Yep - do what @P00hsticks said.

Agree. Go back to the doctor but try not not to panic yet.

Yes, ask for a referral. But don't worry- a close relative had this (loads of blood on several occasions) and was very afraid but it turned out to be nothing bad.

I get this all the time. Sometimes significant blood loss. I had a colonoscopy about 5 years ago that was clear but I do have piles. Agree that it's frightening but there are many causes for rectal bleeding. A colonoscopy would probably put your mind at rest.

DH had this too and was really scared. However, stool sample result was clear and he recently had a colonoscopy which found, and cauterised, a polyp. Hopefully you too will find the cause to be minor - it’s a v good sign that your stool sample was clear. Definitely ask for a colonoscopy referral though - best wishes 💐

Is it fresh blood or old blood OP?

Rugs1 · 29/12/2024 16:46

@BigMingeEnergy its fresh I think, as in it is very red. The very first time it was a lot. Then last week and today it was a few drops.

after the first episode I had a stool test and blood test

@Staywithmemyblood thank you, and glad everything was ok with your husband. Was he having regular blood or one off please ? When did he get colonoscopy referral. Tia

He’d had numerous episodes of mostly fresh blood over a number of months. Referral time was surprisingly short - within a couple of months I think (maybe he was lucky and got a cancellation)
