Urology 2WW / Kidney cancer

DM is on 2WW to urology due to a lesion found on her kidney during an ultrasound. Reason for ultrasound was blood in urine, which ironically stopped the day she had the ultrasound (so only lasted a few days). GP hasn't offered much info - seen last Thursday by them, ultrasound on Friday, referral Friday and appt tomorrow with urology. I'm beside myself with worry and looking for experiences of this, and/or kidney cancer if anyone has them?

A friend of mine had a grapefruit-sized tumour on his kidney discovered during an ultrasound scan. He had the kidney removed, and has regular checks still but is otherwise fine; it hadn’t spread. This was a good few years ago now.

Im sure others will be along with more detailed and knowledgeable information, but I wanted to let you know that there can be a good outcome from a very scary diagnosis. Sending love 🌷

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer earlier this year, had no symptoms at all and it was a huge shock. Got a quick referral to a urologist who sent me for a scan that showed I had a small 3 cm lesion. Was told I could either have it removed or just be regularly checked. I chose to have a full nephrectomy which was done 9 weeks ago. I’m doing well, remaining kidney is still adjusting but ok. Went back to see consultant last week for results and I had a stage 1, grade 3 tumour, all margins clear and am now low risk of it returning. Have to have scan every 6 months.

I know what a worry it will be for your mum (& you) but the op wasn’t as bad as I feared. Kidney Cancer UK is the most helpful website I found.

Good luck to your mum 😊

My relative had a kidney lesion found when he had scans following bowel cancer diagnosis. The kidney lesion in his case was nothing to worry about, we found out eventually. So fingers crossed for you, and it's not necessarily bad news.
