Hi, my step mum has recently been diagnosed with cancer she has surgery next week and starts chemotherapy in January. I want to give her something special for Christmas, I'm offering practical help in any way I can as I know that means a lot to her but what is a good gift and what should I avoid?

Some things to do such as books she'd enjoy, or a kindle, magazine subscription for tablet or hard copy, puzzles.

I'd personally avoid anything hat, scarf or hair loss related unless requested at this stage.

Neal's Yard Wild Rose Balm, hospitals have the most drying air for your skin and lips

Good headphones are a shout plus Spotify subscription or audible

Is she up to a trip out before treatment such as afternoon tea or a spa treatment if she likes these things, or a drive into the countryside and some fresh air and lunch if she's more outdoorsy.

They're very well intentioned but I would stay away from self care boxes which I appreciated, don't get me wrong, but felt quite impersonal. Make up your own if you like the idea

Some potted bulbs for a bit of brightness to come out when she'll be feeling tired out

Thankyou, some good ideas there!
