Lumps and Breast Clinic

Hello
ive just been to the breast clinic. I’m 42 years of age. I have a lump in my breast and they found another mass on the same breast. They did mammograms and ultrasounds and biopsy’s. I am freaking out. The results won’t be available for a week. Of course i am thinking of the worst case scenario’s. I just want anyone who reads this and has been in the same boat but who has had a positive outcome and the results have shown it not to be cancer.
thank you

I had a mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and a lumpectomy.

It was a calcified cyst.

I hope yours is something similar and they can remove it soon. I remember that feeling waiting for results so well.

I was on here with a similar story in June. I found a huge lump and had a ultrasound, biopy and mammogram. I will never forget how awful the wait for results was. Luckily it turned out to be benign but did need to be removed. Remember that 90% of lumps are benign.

Can you describe the lump? Where is it located? What does it feel like? Is it moveable?

shellyleppard · 06/12/2024 18:48

@Doingmybe i had the same. Had a mammogram, scan and needle biopsy in one day. Thankfully it was just a cyst. Longest wait time though. Sending healing hugs 🫂 💐 🙏 ❤️

Did they give you any indication of what it might be when they did the ultrasound? They will often say there and then if they think it’s cancer. I have had - looks like a cyst, not sure what it is, and we can’t give you any reassurance at this stage. None turned out to be cancer. The people who did have cancer that I know were told at ultrasound stage.

hugs to you. The waiting is awful.

Thank you so much for replying. The radiologist just said that they would not be taking biopsy’s if they were cysts. Only 6 days to go for an answer 🤢🤮

Ah ok. That doesn’t sound particularly helpful and also sounds a little bit insensitive. I had a bunch of biopsies earlier this year including an armpit lump so I was feeling very hopeless but they all come back as benign. Hopefully yours are similar to mine. When I asked what the radiographer was seeing he said, well they don’t particularly look like cancer but they are not cysts so we need to find out what they are. Wishing you luck.

Hello everyone, I just received a
phone call from the breast clinic to go in on Tuesday for results. I said to the nurse
there and then is this for bad news. She said not necessarily and they were just trying to get everything sorted before Christmas. I also asked should I take someone with me and she said that if I want to they can facilitate that. I have been such a nervous wreck I got some Valium from my gp to calm me. I just want to know has anyone else had to go in for it but so bad news?

Whatever happens you did the right thing getting checked. The waiting for results is brutal; I wish you all the best.

BoilingHotand50something · 13/12/2024 15:56

In my experience, you always have to go in for results, whether it is good news or bad. So don’t read too much into it. Having said that, whatever the outcome, I think there is a pretty unanimous view that the waiting for the results is the worst part. Thinking of you.

Jelly4444 · 13/12/2024 16:25

Most doctors like to see their patients to discuss a treatment plan and they don't give results on the phone. If the lumps are benign, you will probably need them removed. If malignant, you will need a treatment plan.

Try calling your GP on Monday. My GP had my biopsy results the day before I went to see my consultant for my (benign) results.

Good luck on Tuesday. I will be thinking of you.
