Anyone had a funny shaped lump turn out fine

Hi I've discovered a funny knobbly long shaped lump in my right breast. Been referred to the beast clinic for a mammogram on Friday. I'm a bit worried. I had a look on my nhs app and the dr has clicked the over 30 suspected cancer box. Is it the norm to click that box when they don't know what it is? I would feel a bit better if it was a smooth round lump but the thick long gristley feeling thing is now making me worry if it's something sinister. (I'm 30 and not been for a mammogram before)

I did OP - it was before the NHS app but I think the letter said suspected cancer and I remember the receptionist speaking to me in a way that you would someone who has suspected cancer! I went for the mammogram and the doctor said she didn’t think it was anything. I vaguely remember going for the follow up. In the end they think it was just an in-grown hair or just my breasts changing as I was also pregnant at the time.

@DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised thank you. Glad it was nothing horrible. I have breast fed 4 children so wondered if it was something related to that or a milk duct issue (haven't breastfed for 2 years now though) so not sure.

I don't have experience of the exact type of lump you have but didn't want to read and not reply. The suspected cancer box may just be to get you on the two week pathway so that it gets checked quickly, not that the gp is giving an opinion on it. Most lumps are not cancerous, so difficult as it is it's best to stay off google and try not to worry until you have had the further tests. It is a scary time but you are doing the right thing getting it looked at.

Fingers crossed op. I'm being seen Friday too, for a lump in my mouth. Thought it was a wisdom tooth, but the dentist seemed very concerned :( Can't complain about the wait time at least, 7 days in all.

@Owly11 thank you so much x

Aww no, I hope it all goes well for you and it's nothing serious, let us know how you get on💐
I had a tumor growing in my salivary gland last January, and had the gland removed. Tumour tested bengin, so I'm hoping it's another benign thing again, although that one felt quite smooth and round not and dented and thick like this one 🙁 x

@Chaiilatte You just have to hold on to the fact that more than 9 in 10 urgent referrals are not cancer. And breast tissue changes so much with age and children. It's nervy, I'm just pretending it's not happening.

? Fibroadenoma?… you are in the right age bracket for one

FreshLaundry · 09/10/2024 20:16

Yeah mine seemed really suspicious but it was a cluster of cysts. Had them drained there and then. I hope you get a benign result 💐

I had this in my 30s

I’ve had referrals to breast mammograms twice for suspicious lumps. The first was a dense mass of tissue that turned up to be just the way one of my breast is build. The other was a cyst that was drained there and then. Nerve wracking waiting for the tests but lumps in beasts are very common and only a tiny proportion are cancerous.
