Receiving biopsy results

Hi everyone. I had a biopsy done on a breast lump a week ago. I received a letter today for an appointment which I assume is to discuss my results. My panic has come from who my appointment has been made with. The doctor is an oncoplastic surgeon and the lead of our local breast clinic. Does anyone know if there is still a chance I will receive benign results or is the writing on the wall with this one because of who my appointment is with? Should I be preparing myself? xx

Well it's worth being prepared and taking someone with you. But probably that's the team that runs the breast clinic. Did they give you any indication of what they were thinking when they did the tests?

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 04/10/2024 19:51

I had the same kind of letter after my biopsy.
It turns out l had a large cyst ( non cancerous) but they still wanted to take it out.
Praying for you and good luck. X

No indication at all. My lump didn’t show on mammogram or ultrasound, the doctor said that was due to dense breast tissue. He wasn’t happy to leave it without further investigation so did a biopsy. I am in a situation of knowing absolutely nothing at all. Trying to stay sane is driving me crazy!

Well i think that sounds reasonable optimistic

I hope so. My best friend died because of breast cancer a few years ago, I think this is making me overthink a lot more than I usually would. Everything I’m going through, she did, and knowing what she went through after has made me more anxious I guess.

When I had a biopsy back in June, due to a lump showing up on the ultrasound, the radiologist let me know kindly but in no uncertain terms that it looked to be of concern (but also looked small and treatable). He was right on all scores. I think if they don't know and are checking to be safe then there is definite cause for optimism. I'm so sorry about your friend, that must be making everything about this even harder. xx

My mum had no lump but tissue behaving strangely a few months ago. They were sure it was nothing. When it didn’t resolve, they checked further and were still sure it was nothing but did a biopsy. It was positive for cancer. She had surgery to remove a few days later. A very small course of radio. And has negligible risk of reoccurrence.

I tell you this because breast cancer is very common, often extremely treatable and so important to catch early. Sounds like even if that is what they have to say to you, you are likely very early on.

Hi I'm in a similar boat to you @Tink198403 , I had my mammogram last week, was called back to get it drained on Monday, they couldn't drain it so a biopsy was taken, the radiologist seemed confident that it was nothing to serious and told me not to worry, much easier said then done 😌, I got a phone call today inviting me back to get my results on Tuesday, I knew I would be called into see the breast surgeon. I'm trying not to worry but have had a sinking/nervous feeling all week. I wish you well x

Mollylolly · 12/11/2024 09:23

Hi just wondering how you got on at your appointment?

Poppins17 · 12/11/2024 20:02

I’m also waiting for biopsy results. My appointment was last Wednesday. I was told a week to two and that the consultant would call me with results. No mention of a letter. I’ve been sitting by the phone for the past 48 hours. Good luck OP.

Duckface123 · 12/11/2024 21:24

goodluck @Poppins17 it is nerve wracking waiting, I got my results a couple of weeks ago and was told I have a fibroadenoma which is basically a benign tumor. I am going into hospital soon to get it removed. More worried about the general anesthetic ...feeling nervous.

Mollylolly · 13/11/2024 06:41

Poppins17 I'm going through the same waiting on results. I have an appointment to go back and get results next Wednesday. The wait is absolutely horrendous. I did a thread recently about my experience called mammogram recall.

Duckface123 I'm so glad your results were benign but I do understand you are still worried about the GA . I'm sure you will be absolutely fine xx

Poppins17 · 15/11/2024 17:58

Thanks @Duckface123 and @Mollylolly - my results have come back as benign - also a fibroadenoma which I have to have removed. It’s 4cm and I have a history of family breast cancer. Have a call next week with the Consultant to find out more.

All the best to you xx

Mollylolly · 15/11/2024 18:04

Poppins17 that's good you had your results. Did you have a face 2 face appointment? And its great news that its benign but I'm sure your still feeling anxious about the thought of surgery. Xx

Poppins17 · 16/11/2024 18:11

@Mollylolly the consultants secretary called me to confirm a fibroadenoma and my next appointment with the consultant is over the phone. Just anxious to know when surgery will be.

Duckface123 · 18/11/2024 13:39

@Poppins17 I to was told I had a fibroadmenda aswell and had surgery to remove it last week, all went well it was a day surgery so was home again the same day. My breast is a little tender but not painful. I'm taking a few days off work to rest up. Goodluck with your surgery it will all go well xx @Mollylolly good luck with your appointment I know its worrying and I'm sure you will be glad once you have had the appointment xx

Mollylolly · 18/11/2024 15:09

@Duckface123 Thank you I'm glad your surgery went well . I'm sure you will be relieved it's all over .
My appointment is on Wednesday and I'm absolutely dreading it . I can't think straight. I am a total mess. X
@Poppins17 I hope you get a date for surgery soon. X

Poppins17 · 18/11/2024 23:16

@Mollylolly I know exactly how you feel. It’s all you can think about, you drive yourself crazy thinking the worst and torturing yourself about what might be. Just know that’s completely normal. I hope tomorrow goes quickly for you and best of luck on Wednesday. Let us know how you get on x

Hetookthecorkscewtoo · 19/11/2024 20:57

I went for an ultrasound and then biopsies taken during the appointment, the consultant told me there and then it was highly likely to be early stage cancer, follow up appointment was to confirm what type and grade it was, plus location. This was done privately, as an aside it was an awful experience as they hadn't administered enough anaesthetic so the pain was undescribable, I am hoping that it's just a cyst or benign lump as you weren't told on the day.

BUT it is a very treatable! And also you aren't alone, the wait to hear is the worst bit but you are in the system, that's the best bit xxxx

Poppins17 · 20/11/2024 22:01

@Mollylolly how did it go today?

Mollylolly · 20/11/2024 22:04

@Poppins17 it was benign! They called me before my appointment. The releif is immense. Thank you for asking xx
