Hi All,

I went to dr with pressure feeling tension on my neck at the back, extreme headaches and a 8cm hard lump on the left side of my neck under the jaw.

Waited and waited for weeks on end for a ultrasound/biopsy. Had general bloods done in meantime.

Day finally arrives for ultrasound, radiologist immediately refused to do a biopsy said I have a goiter of multiple noudles from my thyroid all needs to be surgically removed. Ultrasound doesn't look like cancer.

Now where do I go as I'm still worried about cancer. Do I believe her that ultrasound is all benign?

What puzzles me, no dr as I had 4 feel my neck before even suggested thyroid. I do have a swelling over thyroid I don't dispute it but it's squishy and zero pain.

Do you have a surgery date?

Custardslices · 26/09/2024 22:54

No, I'm back on a waiting list no idea how long this is. Have not seen anyone apart from dr and radiologist. No ct scan or anything just an ultrasound

If they suspect cancer you will probably be seen again within a few weeks but if not then I imagine there is likely to be a very long wait for surgery unfortunately.

You can potentially have further diagnostics done privately if you are worried OP?

Meadowfinch · 27/09/2024 06:54

In the end you have to trust a trained, qualified and experienced medical professional.

If you have it tested privately, will you trust that result or want another one?

Ask about surgery dates first.

For context I'm 39 year old female

What's puzzling me why did they not do a biopsy when this is what I was booked in for?

Yes I will believe the biopsy results

Because thyroid masses of different types have particular appearances on ultrasound and they can be pretty confident from those tests alone what kind of mass it is
