Hello @Wells37 . I hope you have now had the surgery, or that it's fast approaching. Today I'm taking my kids on the holiday of a lifetime. My brain surgery was February this year, and it's now time to make memories. Unfortunately we didn't have any critical illness cover, but I'm unlikely to need a pension, so meh, we're doing it. I'm saying this, because around the time of surgery it's incredibly difficult to think of anything else, but there is life out there, we just need to grab it with both hands while we can.

Wells37 · 25/10/2024 14:40

I'm having the surgery early next week, thank goodness. I just want it over with now.
I've realised we don't actually have critical illness just life insurance which will pay out if my prognosis isn't great. But I don't really want to think about that. Just one thing at a time. Applied for esa this week.
We have some other options financially and my mum and dad are very supportive and in a position to help financially too. So financially we are ok at the moment.
Just got back from having coffee with my lovely friend who's been my best friend since I was 15! It's lovely seeing her as I can completely be myself as she knows absolutely everything about me !

Hi OP, glad you have had a lovely day today. Not sure of your work situation, but totally worthwhile checking your work critical illness insurance. I worked for a company which was closed by the previous government, a colleague had a herat and lung transplant and although the company per se, no longer existed, the insurance did and paid out as she recovered. All the very best for your theatre debut!

Mydoghealsmyheart · 26/10/2024 21:30

Sending you lots of hugs and good wishes for your surgery. I’ll be thinking of you.

Icantfindanewname · 27/10/2024 14:05

I've logged on from the side of a sunny pool after a full day sightseeing and memory making to wish @Wells37 the very best wishes for the next week (it is Sunday today, right? 🤔)

I truly hope your surgery is fast and effective, and your recovery is as easy as it can be. Please don't worry if they staple your skin back together, I had 19 of the blumming things in and was convinced they would hurt coming out. Nope, absolutely no issue. If you're like me, you may end up with an anaesthetic which feels like a really long lasting dental anaesthetic 😂. I now cannot even see the scar, and it was quite bumpy to start with😁deep breaths, you can do this 🤗
