Expecting a diagnosis tomorrow

I seem to have been sucked into an alternative reality!

Initially being investigated for potential cardiac issues and a chest xray showed a large mass. CT followed which revealed a large mass in the mediastinum which was originally described as of unknow aetiology. I joined the 2 week suspected cancer pathway on the 11th August as a result. To date, I have seen a consultant (no answers), had a PET scan and at the start of this week, had an EBUS (bronchial biopsy) which was deeply unpleasant as sedation was not very effective. Yesterday, the biopsy report was added to the NHS app by the GP and states under diagnosis cancer probable.

I am so unsure what to do. I have spoken to the specialist nursing team who have told me I am on the list to be discussed at the weekly MDT tomorrow and that someone will phone me late tomorrow to give me the diagnosis and treatment plan outlines. I have support from a work colleague who is also a friend and has said I can go to hers so I am not alone when I get the call but I am unsure as I feel I am putting too much reliance onto others and I don't want to wear out anyone's goodwill.

If you got a phone diagnosis, did you have support around you?

Sending you a massive hug.

Please do take any support that is offered if it would help you. Don’t worry about wearing out goodwill - if friends offer help it means they want to help. Really.

I have a friend going through treatment right now and I’m happy to be there or help in any way I can - I’d hate it if she felt like she needs to manage it all alone (unless she prefers to) or ration how much support she asks for.

Very best wishes for tomorrow. I hope it’s as good news as is possible.

You won't wear out anyone's goodwill. I'm sure that they are desperate to support you. Go to the friend if company would be helpful when the call comes through.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. My Mum has heart problems and cancer and her diagnosis process was quite slow and several consultants all had to confer - it being the chest area.

Sincerely hope that you have good news tomorrow.

@Pinkmoscato

I'm sorry you're going through this.

I wish the very best news possible tomorrow

She invited you to hers. So you didn't have to be alone if you didn't want to be. She wouldn't have if she didn't want you to!

it's not easy to 'be there' for someone, if they won't let you be.🥲. Let her.

Thanks everyone. I did lean on my friend in the end and as well I did as it was not good news, tumour is malignant and will be referred to oncology, hopefully by the time the appointment comes through, the full biopsy report is back.

i feel your pain. I have a large 4.5 cm mass in my Medistinum area. It’s been monitored for a year with three monthly ct scans. It’s only grown 1cm in a year. These sort of masses are usually very slow growing. They haven’t a clue what it is. A biopsy is out the question because of its location. On the waiting list for removal. Because of being slow growing, the surgeon isn’t in a hurry to remove it. Good luck, you’re under the best care. They will have a good pan for your treatment. Xx
