How to help DH

DH has been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Operation booked for next week to fit a stoma. Then Radiotherapy and chemo.

Its all starting to get real and I don't know how best to help him?
Practically I'm not sure what I should be doing, do I need to buy anything that will make it easier for him to change the stoma bag?

Would I need to buy a waterproof mattress?

Anything I should get to help him when he is having the radiotherapy and chemo?

Thank you

I'm sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis, it must be very shocking. I recommend Bowel Cancer UK, they have an ask the nurse service where you can email a nurse and ask all those practical questions.

So sorry to hear this. My Dad is in a very similar situation. He has bowel cancer ( recently diagnosed) but due to the severity of his symptoms he was unable to start the radiotherapy/ chemotherapy this week. He was admitted last Friday to hospital and had the stoma operation today. To say that it is stressful is an understatement but I know that there are stoma nurses who give training on how to change it etc.
All we can do is one step at a time but it’s just horrendous.
Sending you love and prayers.
