Polyp results

DH had a colonoscopy that they rushed through under the 2ww suspected bowel cancer after blood in stools. They found a 3cm polyp that has been sent off for testing. Consultant said on the day it would take 1-2weeks but we are still waiting 4 weeks later. DH phoned the consultant secretary who said it would normally take up to 6 weeks. Does this sound about right or should we be doing more?

When I had a polyp removed by colonoscopy the results were back within the same week. That said it was done privately under health insurance. I hope you hear something soon as the waiting is the worst part.

Thank you.
I'd like to think no news is good news but not sure when it comes to the NHS?!

I was told by the consultant that an experienced practitioner will know before the biopsy, or at least be pretty sure, what they are dealing with. They send it in for biopsy to make certain, and to get a detailed analysis if there is something wrong, but they have some idea before the actual results come back. There are some other colonoscopy threads that confirm this.

Did they say anything to you or DH after the procedure?

DH said the consultant was concerned by the size but didn't say anything else

OK. Hard to say if you should be doing more - I might call again and mention that the consultant said 1-2 weeks.

As you probably know, a lot of polyps are benign, or even if they are malignant, he may not need further treatment if the entire polyp was removed. He will be put on a more frequent screening schedule in future.

I hope the results are favourable for DH.

No news is good news. If something bad they are usually onto it within days.

But for peace of mind I would phone.

Mine took over 4 weeks. I contacted my GP in the end and they were able to get hold of the results quickly. The delay was that the hospital were considering what to do next. My polyp was large. No cancer, just some high grade dysplasia so I need check ups. So perhaps see if the GP can help get the results
