A bit of a strange one

Hello hope someone can help settle my mind a little

A family member of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer 12 months ago. Due to their age and other health issues opted not to have treatment or even any further testing to find out what stage it was at.

The family member is now getting some opioids for back pain but is otherwise in the same position as they were a year ago.

I'm now beginning to wonder if they really have got cancer? I am more grateful than you can imagine but still baffled as to how well they are doing! I've never heard of anyone living over a year with untreated lung cancer. Do you think there is a possibility of misdiagnosis?

I know someone who went on for 4 years with untreated lung cancer and you wouldn't think she ever had it, she unfortunately passed of pneumonia instead

My neighbour has lung cancer which has gone to her back and other places I think, and honestly she amazes me. She was diagnosed a year and a half ago and is terminal, still driving around in her car, living her life.
