Possible BCC and terrified

Hello
I have what started out as an ingrown hair about a year ago, which i constantly picked and squeezed. Its now like a skin colour raised scar. I went to the docs and he said it looks like a basal cell carcinoma and has referred me to dermatology.
I suffer with anxiety and my head is going to all sorts of worse case scenarios.
Anyone else been in this situation?

It may not be BCC. I have something very similar on my arm. The Dr. referred me to dermatology and it turned out to be a sebhorric keratosis. My Dr. at the time told me it looked suspicious and could be skin cancer.

Your Dr. Is not a skin specialist which is why he has referred you.

Basal cell carcinomas do not spread and are not dangerous for you even if it is one so stop worrying💐

It is extremely rare for BCCs to metastasise. If it is a BCC it will be removed under LA and most likely be the end of it. Try not to think of worst case scenarios, understandably difficult when your anxious.

Don't worry OP, BCC is usually not too serious! They grow slowly and rarely spread. They have to be removed because if left alone, they can eventually damage underlying organs.

I had one removed from my face. The consultant said that BCCs are incredibly slow growing and you are more likely to die with one than from one. As a PP said it is extremely rare for one to metastisise. You can cover it with a plaster to stop yourself picking at it.

The dermatologist will just whip it off for you. I had one 15 years ago, no problems since.
