Mums colonoscopy tomorrow

My mum has a colonoscopy tomorrow due to sporadic bleeding with bowel movements (fresh blood) but also because she had a FIT test done and that was positive for blood too. She also has this issue where she'll eat something and immediately have to go toilet but it's never diarrhoea and actually normal movements! She's so worried she can cancer though, the Dr. was fairly optimistic tho after her bloods showed no anemia and the fact she has zero stomach pain, but I was wondering has anyone been in this situation and what did it end up being? Even if it was bowel cancer I would like to know. Thanks!

Hi thanks for replying, thought I'd let u know it showed diverticulosis with diverticulitis and mucosa inflammation throughout the whole colon. So it doesn't always end up being bad news! I'm sure you'll be fine too x

I was going to say, my mum had the same and its diverticulitis

Thanks both. I'm 45 with three children under 14 so a bit scared to say the least

I had a colonoscopy last year when I was 38 as well. I’d had trouble with diarrhoea and some blood. Had fit test and another test, think it was the calprotectin and both were elevated enough to refer. Think they were 60 something and 70 something. Nothing found though just a small pile. What were your levels?

Hi OP

Often, bright red blood is from something like piles or at a times from a Fisher I think its called - both nothing to worry about and easily sorted.

My colonoscopy also showed diverticulitis. I have other symptoms and am having an ultra sound, spleen, liver and abdomen. I am also due an endoscopy.
If they don’t find any thing I suggest your mum asked for further investigations.

I had something similar to this and it wasn’t bowel cancer. As far as I’m aware, if you’re producing normal, solid stools then it isn’t anything to be too worried about (in regards to cancer)
