Hi all,

I am getting myself into a worrying mess after being referred to neurology urgently.

For a couple of months I have had headaches and head pain in the same spot and I wake up in the night and in the morning with it. I’m also having a lot of muscle twitches/spams and dizziness.

I started to take citalopram at the beginning of December and wanted to come off of them because they were causing more headaches. I’ve always been a “headachey” person. I had hoped that in coming off them the headaches would stop and my GP also said that by now they should be out of my system. I went cold turkey two weeks ago and did feel pretty rubbish - spaced out, more muscle twitching and headachey.

I had hoped it was the citalopram withdrawal but the GP said it’s a red flag having morning headaches so has referred me to neurology for a suspected brain cancer. I think the problem is I had the head pain whilst on the tablets too (I know that headaches are a side effect of them too).

I can’t help but worry as these headaches are responding to paracetamol either, which my headaches normally do.

I have two young boys and I’m really worried something is wrong with me. I have health anxiety as it is so not doing too well.

I have had morning headaches for a lot of my life. It's hormone-related. When I'm on the pill or hrt i don't have them
I have found that too big a pillow causes it too and I now barely have any pillow at all

It works

They're right to check all options though. I suspect youll be reassured

Thank you for replying. Hopefully it’s absolutely nothing and all related to the citalopram.x

Hi. Is there an update? How did you get on?

Ljd401 · 25/04/2024 22:52

Thank you for asking after me. I had a brain MRI which was normal. They think I’m suffering from vestibular migraines. When I read up on them it sounds just like how I’ve been feeling as I get the headache in one place plus dizziness. It lasts a few days to a week. Also had a nerve test as was getting a lot of twitching - all down to Benign Fasculations.
Hope you’re ok?xx

Happy to hear that! I’m currently going through similar symptoms to you (minus the headaches) and I’m petrified I have a brain tumour! Glad to hear everything was OK 😊

Hi. Thanks for asking, I went for an MRI back in May of my brain and neck, and everything was fine. Nothing was found on my scan - which was such a relief.
