Friend of a friend has had a sudden diagnosis of breast cancer with secondary bone cancer. The hospital she is in aren't being great. Can anyone recommend the best place for her in London please? Would also be grateful for Dr recommendations. Thanks

bump.

Suggest you post in Chat if you don't get responses, OP.

All the best to your friend.

Thank you for your reply. I have posted in the 30 day chat, assuming that's the right one? Don't use this much

Sorry about your friend, do you want a private hospital? What are the doctors there not doing, do you know what hospital she is in, can she ask for a second opinion.

You can ask for this to be moved to general health as well

Can she ask to transfer to the Marsden?

Tired6789 · 20/02/2024 10:56

Breast Cancer Now also have free helpline staffed by clinical nurse specialists she can call for advice.

Or what about the Macmillan care helplines?

If she's NHS i don't know if you can just pick and choose.

My friend is advocating on her behalf and at the minute I think it's nhs they are looking at. She may have cover with work but think she is too poorly at the minute to think straight.

I would wait until she has a better idea of the treatment and careplan, what is it she is unhappy about? Its not fair to always move someone when they are very poorly but it depends on what they are looking for.

Initially diagnosed bone cancer, then identified it as a secondary. Now they are saying breast could be primary but they aren't sure. She just wants a second opinion as our local hospital isn't cancer specialist.

Has she seen the oncologist, would it make a difference to the plan where the primary is? Does that affect her treatment plan. Does she particularly want a London hospital? If she has health insurance you could ring and ask what hospitals and oncologists they cover.

Vinvertebrate · 20/02/2024 13:00

In her position I would want my care transferred to the Marsden if possible.

MissyB1 · 20/02/2024 13:09

The Marsden has a good reputation for cancer care.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/02/2024 13:21

I agree that the Marsden is very much a specialist cancer hospital.I wouldn't complicate things with private appointments. It is a serious diagnosis and I expect that your friend is in the stage of information gathering at the moment so eg biopsy if possible to look at cell type and then imaging of the most likely organs to be the seat of a primary cancer. This might mean several further scans if it is unclear as to where the cancer started. After that there will be further scans to look at the extent of any disease . Once all possible information has been gathered and in particular cell type and any spread the oncology , surgical and radiology teams will meet to make a plan about your friend's management.Wishing her luck
