Salivary gland tumour help

Newlywed84 · 05/02/2024 12:31

Anyone had a salivary gland tumour identified? Also known as the parotid gland?

If so, help! I'm awaiting biopsy results and I'm completely terrified.

Any info on what happens if it's bad, surgery experience - or any advice/experience would be so much appreciated.

@SandySquirrel2 hope the pain and swelling has improved and @Lazysundayafternoon2024 hope you are doing ok.
I had the results of my FNA, it was suggested benign but also had some cells which looked like potentially something else, so they want to operate. I’m also getting an MRI this week so the surgeon can get a better look at it.

How are you doing now @Pollypocket51 ? X

@SandySquirrel2 thanks for asking. I had my MRI last week which was ok. I haven’t heard anything after that, but my surgery is now scheduled for 2 weeks time. It’s very scary but I have had a surgery before and that was ok. So I’m really hoping this will be too. How are you doing? And how’s everyone else?
Hope you are doing well @Newlywed84

I'm ok thanks - still symptomatic and waiting for a new scan. What exactly will they do with the surgery, is it to remove the whole lump? X

Sorry to hear you are still feeling the symptoms. Yes surgery is to remove the lump and they can test it to find out what it is. xx

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to update that I had my surgery and my tumour was benign. The surgery was a hard road because I had some complications. It’s rare to happen though apparently and usually a fairly routine operation I believe.

SandySquirrel2 · 27/02/2025 09:01

@Pollypocket51 so sorry for the late reply have only just discovered your update! I've heard that recovery can be tricky depending on size, location etc of the tumour. Can I ask what method they had to use to remove it?

Mine is still in situ! Scanning as benign so they just monitor for changes. It will have to come out at some point as while it's a slow growing kind it's definitely growing! X

@Lazysundayafternoon2024 just wondering how you are?

Can I jump on this thread?

Last Easter I noticed a lump under my left jaw. Spent a year umming and ahhing about whether it was a jowl or a lump. Both a dentist and GP said they couldn't feel anything.

Fast forward to last week. I've been getting a very dry mouth, and saw the dentist on Friday. She confirmed it was a swollen submandibular salivary gland, and has referred me for an ultrasound.

I'm trying to be calm but I'm rubbish at waiting! But what I've read online has been encouraging.
