Large obvious dimple in armpit

Hi. A large dimple has appeared at the top of my armpit. I know it’s new because I have a skin tag there so I’m conscious of it when I shave. It is completely freaking me out. Has anyone had anything similar? Photo attached.

Bumping for you.

I’d go to the GP so they can check & refer to the breast clinic if they have any concerns at all. Can you feel any lumps? I found this video helpful (Liz O’Riordan - how to examine your breasts)

I have noted something similar recently
On my breast but more armpit dimple

All advice around dimples relate more to the breast so i am not sure what best to do
Have you seen gp?

The armpit area is technically breast tissue so you should be seen for a cancer screen.

The armpit is breast tissue, get yourself seen!

Thanks

I have included a photo
Its not the clearest but you can see my armpit and then next to the crease is the dimple

Definitely get to the GP. They are likely to refer you for checks, in the UK should be on the 2 week referral pathway.

But to reassure you, OP, I had similar a few years ago, with a dimple appearing (on my boob not armpit, but as PP have said, it's all the same stuff). I was referred and very worried, but got the all clear at the referral point. Age-related tissue changes.

So hopefully it will be the same for you, but you need a doctor to tell you that, not the Internet.

Hi @Bumble08 I did go to see my GP, she said she wasn’t “overly concerned” but referred me to the breast clinic just in case. I have been getting quite a bit of breast pain and whilst that may be menopausal it just adds to the worry. The clinic appointment has come through for the 28th December. I know lots of people say not to worry but you can’t help it, can you. Anyway, go see your GP too and I’ll let you know what happens with my appointment next week. Thank you for the advice and support everyone. x

Checking a cancer symptom is never a waste of GP time.

Thankyou
You are right

I just hope i am not over reacting

Hi, hope you are well. Do you mind me asking how you got on?

i have a near identical dimple on my armpit. Wondering if i need to get it checked out. Thank you x

Anjabme · 17/01/2024 22:45

Hi Michemo. The consultant did a full check and said that he has no concerns. The dimple is likely due to fat deposits and he couldn’t find anything that he was worried about. He checked back on previous mammograms and was satisfied with those too (they’d been taken just before the summer).

I’d recommend getting it checked just in case, but fingers crossed there’s nothing for you to worry about either. Good luck.
