Tongue cancer

hi

I’ve been referred under the urgent 2ww pathway to the dental hospital. The referral went in yesterday and they’ve already arranged my appointment so I’m already very anxious.

however my dentist originally said we will wait until January and if it’s still there she would refer me. Obviously my anxiety didn’t want this and begged her for a referral now.

however I’m working myself up crying every single night thinking the worst.

does this to anyone look like tongue cancer?

I have none of the red flag markers as I’m 28, don’t smoke or drink but I did carry HPV but it was removed on a colposcopy.

help me😫😫😫

Does the other side of your tongue look similar?- if so then that’s a good sign.

Worriedmum2356 · 16/11/2023 19:47

No it’s not the same on both sides. Very much lumpy on one side and not lumpy on the other.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I really hope it's nothing. I'm sure 8ve had lumps on my tongue that have gone away. Good luck OP.

How long has it been there and do you have a sharp adjacent tooth?

Flyhigher · 16/11/2023 21:55

It's likely to be nothing. The dentist said wait till Jan. They are trained. So they obviously thought it wasn't cancer. But you've pushed it so now, it's urgent. You will find out soon enough. Sure it's ok. It's a big jump up to the tongue. I had a similar scare. And it was nothing in the end.

Embelline · 16/11/2023 21:58

have you burned yourself? Is it sore? Have you got a rough tooth that side?
I've had lumps and bumps like this and they've gone.
How long has it been there?

The only person I know who had that particular cancer was about 50 and chain-smoked, and was an alcoholic, drinking neat spirits. I'm sure you'll be fine. Try not to worry about it.

Great news!

I was about to answer and tell you that it’s a lingual tonsil! So completely normal. I have one, on one side of my tongue, gets sore sometimes if I eat certain foods.

I’m so glad you’ve had your mind put to rest.

Megifer · 20/11/2023 14:14

I won't lie op I shat myself when i saw your pics as I have the same, glad I scrolled down! Great news, I've been there many times with the panic etc and the relief to hear good news is the best feeling 😀

I think mines worse on one side as I clench my jaw when sleeping and sort of shove my tongue into the gaps 🙄

And the person I know was late 30s, fit as a fiddle, never smoked and not a drinker. Has been all clear for over 10 years.
