Caravan sleeping for 13mo?

I'm just wondering what any of you other caravaning mums do with your lo in the van. We've got a 5 berth one and we're a family of 5. The eldest 2 are 8&6, but the youngest is only 13m. We've got 2 double and 1 bunk bed. I'm a bit at a loss as to where to put the littlest one. I'm a bit worried about getting her to share with my dd1(6) and she's too big now (27lbs) to share with me and DH. So I was just wondering what others do. Thanks

We find that ours are more exhausted than at homme with all the activities and fresh air, so sleep quite well. They also tend to have a later bedtime on holiday.

But when mine were that little we put a little set of bells on the outside door handle, so if there were any escapees we heard the bells.

We always had DS sleep with me as our doubles weren't huge - he is almost 3 though weighs the same as your DD. When we had camper van we all just slept togther no problem and we aren't the smallest (width) of people and were fine. How come you are worried about her sharing with your other daughter?

Have you got room for a travel cot down the middle?

Do trust the younger ones to sleep in an awning yet?

ivykaty44 · 03/07/2010 22:28

you sleep in an awning

my dd2 slept in double with my dad - though it was a big double 8 foot by 7 so plenty of room for both of them..

borderslass · 03/07/2010 22:52

when we had that set up we put a travel cot in between the 2 singles below bunk bed

Thanks for your answers.
No, there's no room for a travel cot. Well, there is, but it then blocks our path to the toilet and DH tends to get up several times a night for a week Our awning is old, hasn't got any curtains AND has a bit of a tear on one of the sides and I don't think I want to sleep in there.

I'm not worried about sharing with my daughter. That's what we have been doing up until now. DH works away from home and I just felt that I'd like some DH and me time + DH is finding it hard work sleeping with dd1, because she is very very wriggly and keeping him up at night. So I thought I'd see what other poeple do with a 13mo in a caravan.

could you put a bed guard on one of the beds

hocuspontas · 04/07/2010 11:15

My 3 have either slept with 2 on singles and one on the floor in the middle or all 3 in the largest double. They did this from young until well into their teens.

Some friends of ours with a caravan used to put the little one in a double with their eldest (who must have been about 9/10 at the time) -the little one on the wall-side so they couldn't fall out

I've got the same caravan setup. My 14 month shares with the 4 year old. baby sleeps against the window and 4 yr old on the edge. Luckily there is a sliding door which stops any rolling out. But would agree that the bed guard would do the trick.

I'd imagine using the floor would be a nightmare anyone wanting to use the toilet in the night or hubby coming in late tripping up. The floor is where all the clothes get dumped.

Hmm, I might have an experiment with the sharing with my 6yo. I'd put her with the 8yo, but he bedwets (that's a completely different story) and needs the single bed so we can put his mattress protector on.
The bed guard is a great idea too. Except that I just sold our bed guard 3 more weeks to go. We'll have to have a think.
Thanks for all the suggestions though. It gives me lots of food for thought
