nice/beautiful basic campsite in cornwall or Devon?

Looking for somewhere which won't be crowded for our first camping trip. When I mean basic we would be OK with toilet and tap but would also like toilet/tap/shower/small washing up area with hot water. This would be for sometime in August.

Anyone know any basic but beautiful/natural/pretty campsites that you could share with me?

I mean a simple farm which allows campers would be fine.

Thanks!

South penquite farm Bodmin moor.

Very clean, lovely solar showers, organic farm and they allow camp fires.

Sorry can't link to website as I'm on iPod. It's not right on the coast so should be less crowded than other sites. We were there during the recent bank holiday - lovely weather and it wasn't crowded. Not sure what it will be like in the summer though.

There's one on dartmoor as well but I can't remember what it's called. I think it's a farm near postbridge.

You have single handedly burst my bubble, i am going to be very now.... just kidding

maybe i was being very unrealistic!

OK so anywhere pretty/nice/quiet will do that is in the south west.

Penhalt Farm just out of Widemouth Bay. Fairly basic but the amazing views make up for it. That's my secret - don't tell anyone!

Glad you found it. I was going to link to my blog if not as I link from the last review. Horse boy camp won't be for you but I mention the campsite in passing. It was a good one.

CerealOffender · 29/06/2010 18:59

book now or you will end up on a weirdy campsite with over friendly owners and christian posters in teh loos (bitter experience)

Saintly, I like the look of South penquite farm Bodmin moor , it seems like my sort of site! Will i need to book? or is that a stupid question?

You wouldn't have needed to when I was there - but I suspect it's sensible during the summer holidays.

It was lovely; laid back, very clean & safe.

dreamingofsun · 30/06/2010 15:30

yes you will need to book south penquite in summer hols as was fully booked when we went. take your wellies as paths very muddy if rains a lot. a 4x4 useful for bumpy/muddy farm track. loads of space - though weather bad when we went - and nice showers

Batteryhuman · 30/06/2010 16:38

Little Meadow, Combe Martin near Ilfracombe, is lovely.

bintofbohemia · 01/07/2010 09:49

There's a nudist beach at Combe Martin as well.

There are always quietish low key camspites in Devon and Cornwall if you go a bit back from the coast and look for the ones which don't have flamboyant websites or lots of facilities, or don't take bookings.

We have tried to go to South Penquite about 4 times and each time have cancelled due to rain, so now it's associated in my mind with a permanent rain cloud. one day we'll go there....

We are going to go here in summer - got it through national Trust and have checked with them re ging over summer hols, she says no problems at all.
