sleeping options for babies

Thinking about our first camping trip as a family with 2 dc, 6 months and 3 yo. DS1 will love it, sure DS2 will too but want to hear your experience of where to put them to bed... do you take travel cot and keep it all as familiar as poss, or are there other options? He's an easy baby and think he'd sleep anywhere... Thanks!

we took the moses basket till they were 9 months or so put in on the floor with a roll mat underneath for insulation

I bought a samsonite pop up travel cot - there's a baby one and toddlerish one... let me find a link, they were awesome.

this one for littlies

and this one for bigger kids.

Can get them in pink and blue and stuff now too

Travel cot a good idea if you have room. I've just bought a new airbed to try with DD (3) which has raised sides - last year we put her in a sleeping bag on a mat and she slept fine but had a tendency to roll off. We were camping a couple of weekends ago and she was on the mat again, but our new tent has less division between the rooms and I woke up with her wedged in my armpit - she'd gravitated!
DD loves camping (much more than me!) - have fun.

I had one of the samsonite ones when DD v small but found the mattress layer really thin - are they still like that (I got mine from a friend so it must have been 4 yrs old) - if so, did you put extra padding down?

this is very good lasts ages and is really versatile

It goes to the size of a sleeping bag is vvv light and can be used as a sunshade and playpen too - also a doddle to put up and down.

dd is 6 months and loves hers by the way , keeps mozzies out at nap time too.

We have just bought one of these for ds - he is 3 but I dont see why you couldnt use one for a baby?

MrsFeathersword · 26/06/2010 22:16

We used a travel cot with DS up till he was two, handy as could put him in it in safety while you were putting tent up etc!
He's too big now, and I'm looking forward to not having to carry it, and to using an airbed (same one as Geordieminx has linked).

Mmmm - I think the Kampa airbed looks the business! Agonised over the Samsonite pop-ups before with DS1 and boringly bought the standard four-square version. Thanks for all your help guys - really looking forward. DH and I intrepid-ish campers in our former lives, will be great to get back out there! Ummmm.... your top child-friendly campsites?

We used an old carrycot until they were too big to cram in and then moved to grobag and blankets snuggled up next to us.
