Quick and easy dinners when you're camping.....

We are now proud owners of a camping stove including a grill (thanks ebay and my folks for driving to Edmonton to collect it!!). It is immaculate, used once - BARGAIN.

Anyway, we were going to eat in the pub every night to make life easier (for me) but now I want to cook on my new stove!

So I need ideas for dinners please.

My mind is blank due to the stress of putting up the tent in the back garden this morning with DH!

Bangers and beans?

do a hash type thing - small potato cubes, onions, chopped sausage, herbs, peppers, tomatoes....?

Or I have done quite a successful sausage and mash and onion gravy on a camp stove.

Or bacon in baguettes.

I love cooking bacon butties for breakfast when camping.
Pasta and sauce from a jar is what we do for other meals. (sorry not v adventurous is it? we go to the pub!)

I am about as excited as a person can be about this holiday - ridiculous aren't I. Please can the weather stay fantastic like it is at the moment!

If it's a campinggaz one, you can't use the grill and the burners at the same time, can you?

Blu - it's not a campinggaz one it's a Sunngas and I have no idea but will find out. Thanks for that.

Strawb - see I'm a girl that doesn't use tins much so I need the tips like the M&S tinned curry cos that's not something I would usually buy but are essential on holiday. Ta

I always used to make big fry ups! holiday special of course we used to buy the eggs and bacon and sausages from the farm we were camping at then add some mushrooms and tomatoes and fried bread! if ot a farm we would find a corner shop or take our own! yummy!!!!

I can't WAIT for the holiday fry-up - don't really do them at home these days - trying to be healthy but on holiday - woohoo, pile my plate high with fried delicacies.

You have to spoil yourself on holiday its what there for!

I also take along diposable bbq's and buns to do burgers, hotdogs, bacon rolls ect. as you can tell im healthy healthy healthy on holiday!

I am going to balance my intake of fry-ups with long healthy walks on the beach, football with the kids, bike rides in the forest topped off with the warm-down - kicking back with my new plastic wine glass and a box of wine by my side.

DS was SO proud of our (very basic) cooker, he kept bringing other kids to look at it. And they all had very fancy ones, of course!

KBear - have they sent the gas cylinder, too? And regulator? (the valve thing on the gas hose that attaches to the gas cannister?)

My Dad has rigged it up for me as he knows about these things - he had a regulator and a gas bottle already.

Phew! Well done KBear! Had family revolt on my hands when we discovered the regulator was missing just as we had got our appetites up for a bacon butty!

thank goodness for my mum and dad - they've lent us some stuff like a table and chairs and then drove to pick up the cooker today (they also bought a go-kart for DS from the same people). They've also got a lamp we can borrow. It adds up all this equipment you need to get started doesn't it. Still next time we will be organised and have what we need.

Cheese fondue - lots of swiss cheese, garlic and white wine, with crusty bread or raw veggies to dip in. Great fun! Followed by chocolate fondue - lots of choccie and fresh fruit dips. Good way for getting fruit and veg in the kids too!! Oh, maybe not too heavy on the wine with the kids though!

albert - I will be the envy of the new forest with my swiss cheese fondue - HOW civilised!

Having just today come back from a week's camping with 6 children this was our week's menu:
-tinned curry and quick cook boil in the bag rice (the best way to cook rice when camping by far)
-tinned stewing steak and tinned carrots and smash
-tinned ham and tinned new potatoes and tinned peas
-quick cook pasta and jars of bolognese sauce
-tinned meatballs and boil in the bag rice
-tinned beans and sausages and smash

Puddings were: cake or apple pies and ready made cartons of custard, tinned fruit cocktail and evaporated milk, tinned rice pudding, angel delight and trifle biscuits.

Afternoon snacks of nutella, peanut butter, paste, sandwhich spread or jam sandwiches

Breakfast little individual boxes of cereals.

Tonight I am having home baked bread and fresh vegetables and fruit and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
