So last year I was still with ex and we would go camping in his car with his two older boys, I last summer bought an 8 man vango for us all which I no longer need for just me and my DS so am going to put on ebay.

I have just started having driving lessons and intended to do some weekend camp outs with DS via public transport, but I don't know what to do.

Buy a small light tent, small light expensive sleep mats, etc that I can carry on public transport, or

wait til I have a car and can go camping, meaning I can buy the usual self inflating comfier air beds, a slightly roomier tent where weight would not be an issue, etc.?

We are going to a Haven in a static in May, and I should have a car by the summer holidays. Do you think I should just resign myself to waiting to camp once I can drive??

I know if I buy a small light tent and small sleep mats once I have a car I will want a slightly bigger tent, and 'mattress' type air beds.

I woulkd suggest you just buy a small tent and go camping via public transport, why wait?

That's what I do with DS, and if we go by car we just take the same small tent. I have only recently treated us with the purchase of some airecs, but in the past we always just used our sleeping bags straight on the tent floor.

I recommend you buy airec self inflating mats, they are really really good and you won't need bigger fattewr bulkier things anyway, so even when you have a car you won't need to buy more stuff.

Also, it you buy two airics from alpkit.com you get a tenner off so they aren't expensive. I bought two for fifty quid. Bargain.
